On the Universal C∗-algebra Generated by Partial Isometry
A universal C∗-algebra is constructed which is generated by a partial isometry. Using grading on this algebra we construct an analog of Cuntz algebras which gives a homotopical interpretation of KK-groups. It is proved that this algebra is homotopy equivalent up to stabilization by 2×2 matrices to M2(C). Therefore those algebras are KK-isomorphic. We recall the definition of partial isometry. D...
متن کاملC*-algebra generated by projections
The universal C*-algebra generated by n projections has been described. As an immediate corollary one obtains structure theorem for a pair of projections and the solution to an associated index problem. This puts the study of a pair of projections in the proper perspective of noncommutative geometry. keyword: Index problem, crossed product, Fredholm module, pair of projections. MSC 46L87.
متن کاملOperators with C * - Algebra Generated by a Unilateral Shift
If T is an operator on a Hubert space %, this paper gives necessary and sufficient conditions on 7" such that C*(T), the C*-algebra generated by T, is generated by a unilateral shift of some multiplicity. This result is then specialized to the cases in which T is a hyponormal or subnormal operator. In particular, it is shown how to prove a recent conjecture of C. R. Putnam as a consequence of o...
متن کاملThe Algebra Generated by Three Commuting Matrices
We present a survey of an open problem concerning the dimension of the algebra generated by three commuting matrices. This article concerns a problem in algebra that is completely elementary to state, yet, has proven tantalizingly difficult and is as yet unsolved. Consider C[A,B,C] , the C-subalgebra of the n × n matrices Mn(C) generated by three commuting matrices A, B, and C. Thus, C[A,B,C] c...
